State and territory governments
Several State and territory governments in Australia have established offices that promote their locations as student destinations. They coordinate regional marketing, welcome activities and international student information. Some connect community services and international students.
Study Melbourne is a Victorian Government initiative providing support and information to international students. Through its Study Melbourne Student Centre located in Melbourne’s CBD, they provide international students with free support, information and contacts as well as a range of activities. Study Melbourne provides a range of useful resources for professionals working with international students, to promote its services.
Study Adelaide was established in 1998. Its official government website promotes Adelaide as a study destination. It offers information to students on a range of issues including living in Adelaide, choosing courses, finding work and housing. It links to a searchable student accommodation website.
The Northern Territory Government’s Study in Australia’s Northern Territory promotes international education and training. StudyNT works with the local community to welcome international students to achieve academic success and discover new pathways to their future in Australia’s Northern Territory.
The Northern Territory International Education and Training Industry Group is a key partner in implementing the Northern Territory International Education and Training Strategy 2014-2024.
Study Canberra promotes Canberra as a study destination. It has produced a newsletter since its establishment in 2015. The Study Canberra student ambassador program invites Australian and international students to describe their experiences studying in Canberra.
New South Wales
The NSW Government established StudyNSW within the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet in 2014, to increase the number of international students studying in Sydney and NSW or with education providers overseas. Aiming to enhance international student experiences, StudyNSW has developed an StudyNSW has developed an International Education Strategy highlighting NSW government strategies and projects.
StudyNSW supports a number of events and information for providers and international students during the year.
Study Brisbane was established to promote Brisbane as a study destination. Its website offer a range of information for international students. An International Student Guide is published and distributed to education providers and students. Study Brisbane appoints forty students annually as Brisbane Student Ambassadors. These individuals are invited to tell their stories and promote Brisbane.
Study Perth aims to provide a leadership role in building the profile of international education in WA and overseas. It provides resources on its website for anyone seeking information on studying and living in Perth. StudyPerth is supported by the Government of Western Australia through the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation.
Study Tasmania is a Tasmanian Government initiative, funded by the Minister for Education’s roundtable on international education. Study Tasmania undertakes a range of activities to promote the state. It conducts student welcome events for all international students in Tasmania, offers student scholarships and hosts education agent familiarisation tours to enable representatives to promote Tasmanian education.
